SEO Tips for Blogging

Website keywords are more than just words—they are an essential marketing asset. Knowing the keywords that potential customers use to find the offers on your website is critical if you want to tap into the vast market opportunity presented by search engines.

One great free tool for researching your keywords is Google AdWords.

Unfortunately, the typical keyword tools will only get you so far. These tools may give you a list of keywords for your website, but they won’t help you to utilize the keywords effectively. To get results, you need to plan, act and get organized  on your keyword research and development for your particular website message.

So what is the optimal way to use your best keyword opportunities to work effectively on your website?  How can you use them optimally to start seeing great SEO results?

Here are a few  tips about keywords while writing a post.

  • Depending on your web authority if you have the ability to change the Permalink to match your Keyword Phrase you need to do so. This will help in getting your articles recognized as relevant.
  • Keep the post to 1 central idea usually one of your keyword phrases.
  • Use the keyword phrase in the Title, Description, Excerpt, and in the body about every 20th word.
  • When you write a post you need to make it about a single idea and this idea needs to be related to your keyword phrase. When writing a post you need to use this keyword phrase to represent approximately 5% (1 out of 20) words in your post. Bold your keyword phrase the first time you use it in the body for emphasis. When you write a post do not over do it with the keyword phrase or search engines will think you are “stuffing” the article.
  • Make sure you post at least 300 words and include a link referencing another part of your website or another website every 100 to 120 words. General rule of thumb is one link at the beginning, middle and end of the article. Make sure the referenced links are relevant to your keyword phrase and if you reference another website, link to one of their interior pages, not their home page.
  • Once you have your keywords selected, then proceed to write a separate post for each of your keyword phrases

Enjoyed the article. I would also like to know more about measuring the effect of the various SEO techniques and the latest software that online specialists are now using.

Hi Jim – As you know SEO is extremely complex. I studied at Market Motive under Todd Malicott, and he has a process called KOB for KW Opposition and Benefit Analysis that takes basic KW research to another level. Here is link to his site and the tools he recommends http://www.stuntdubl.com/

I have been very happy with SEOMOZ and some of the free tools out there. It really depends on how much you want to spend and the methodology you follow. Aother site you should look at is Matt Cutts (he actually works for Google, and Bruce Clay has great information on SEO)

  2. Very straightforward and informative article on keywords. Maybe you can help me with my site. Jerry Flattum

You are totally correct. It is very difficult to find key words that you can rank on page one for if you are a small company or a company with a small marketing budget. Unless you are spending thousands every month on brand building and recognition, heavy marketing activities, etc. look for words that are searched a lot but with very little competition. Also, do the searches yourself, and see what comes up in the areas you want to rank for, and utilize the ideas for the 3 that continually come up top
